How Image Format Converter works

Uses the browser's built-in Canvas API to decode and re-encode images entirely in memory. No upload, no server — the conversion happens in milliseconds on your device.

  1. 1

    Drop or select an image

Drag any image file onto the drop zone or click to browse. JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, GIF, and SVG are accepted up to 20 MB.

  2. 2

    Choose the output format

Select JPG, PNG, WebP, BMP, or GIF. PNG and BMP are lossless. JPG and WebP are lossy — use the quality slider to balance file size against image sharpness.

  3. 3

    Optionally resize

Enter a target width or height. With "Lock ratio" checked, the other dimension is calculated automatically to maintain the original aspect ratio.

  4. 4

    Convert, then download or share

Click Convert — the preview updates immediately. Download the file directly or share it via the system share sheet on supported devices.

Images are processed entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. No image data is ever sent to a server. Conversion is instant and works offline once the page is loaded.

Frequently asked questions — Image Format Converter

Why is my converted JPG slightly blurry?

JPG is a lossy format — it discards some image data to reduce file size. Raise the quality slider toward 1.0 for sharper output at a larger file size. For pixel-perfect results with no quality loss, use PNG or WebP (lossless).

What is WebP and why should I use it?

WebP is a modern image format developed by Google that provides 25-35% smaller file sizes than JPG at equivalent quality, and supports transparency like PNG. It is supported by all modern browsers and is the recommended format for web images for SEO and performance.

Can I convert a transparent PNG to JPG?

Yes — the tool fills the transparent areas with white before encoding as JPG (which does not support transparency). If you need to preserve transparency, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Why does GIF output look different from the original?

GIF supports only 256 colours. Converting a full-colour photo to GIF causes colour reduction and dithering. GIF is best for simple graphics and animations, not photographs.
