What is VAT / GST Calculator?
VAT (Value Added Tax) and GST (Goods and Services Tax) are consumption taxes applied to goods and services in most countries worldwide. This calculator lets you quickly add tax to a net price to find the gross total, or extract the tax component from an already-taxed (inclusive) price. It works for any tax rate — from the UK's 20% standard VAT to Australia's 10% GST or any custom rate.
How to use this tool
- 1 Choose your mode: 'Add Tax' to calculate the tax on top of a net price, or 'Remove Tax' to extract tax from a price that already includes it.
- 2 Enter your amount in the first field. For Add Tax mode this is the pre-tax price; for Remove Tax mode it is the tax-inclusive price.
- 3 Type your tax rate or click one of the quick-select preset buttons (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%).
- 4 The net amount, tax amount, and gross total update instantly. The breakdown table shows each component as a percentage of the gross.
- 5 Click 'Copy Results' to copy a formatted summary to your clipboard for use in invoices or emails.
