How works
Schema markup (JSON-LD) tells Google what your content is about, unlocking rich results like star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, how-to steps, and event cards in search results.
- 1
Choose a schema type
Pick the type that matches your content — Article for blog posts, Product for e-commerce, FAQ for question pages, Local Business for physical stores.
- 2
Fill in the details
Complete the form fields. Fields marked with * are required for Google to recognise the markup. Optional fields add more detail and can improve rich result eligibility.
- 3
Generate and copy
Click Generate to produce the JSON-LD. Copy it, or use "Copy with script tag" to get the full block ready to paste.
- 4
Paste into your page head
Add the script block to your page's <head> section. Most CMS platforms (WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace) have a field for custom HTML in the head.
- 5
Test with Google
Use Google's free Rich Results Test tool to confirm Google can parse your markup and show you which rich features you qualify for.
Everything runs in your browser. Your content is never sent to any server.
Frequently asked questions — Schema Markup Generator
What is schema markup and why does it matter for SEO?
Schema markup is structured data you add to your HTML to help search engines understand your content. When Google can identify your content type — article, product, recipe, event — it can display enhanced "rich results" like star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, event cards, and How-To steps directly in search results. Rich results typically have higher click-through rates than standard blue links.
What is JSON-LD?
JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is Google's preferred format for schema markup. It's a block of JSON embedded in a <script type="application/ld+json"> tag. Unlike microdata or RDFa, JSON-LD is separate from your visible HTML so it's easy to add without changing your page layout.
Which schema types get the most visibility in Google?
FAQ schema can show expandable Q&A blocks directly in search results and is very effective for informational pages. Product schema enables star ratings and price information. How-To schema can show numbered steps. Local Business schema feeds the Google Business knowledge panel. Article / BlogPosting schema helps news and blog content appear in the Top Stories carousel.
Does schema markup directly improve my ranking?
Schema is not a direct ranking factor — Google has confirmed this. However, rich results significantly improve click-through rates, and higher CTR over time can indirectly improve rankings. Schema also helps Google better understand your content, which can improve how accurately it ranks you.
How do I test if my schema markup is working?
Use Google's free Rich Results Test (search.google.com/test/rich-results). Paste your URL or paste the raw HTML and it will tell you which rich result types your page is eligible for and flag any errors. Google Search Console also has a "Enhancements" section that tracks schema detection across your whole site.
Can I have multiple schema types on one page?
Yes. You can include multiple JSON-LD script blocks on a single page. For example, a product page might have Product schema and BreadcrumbList schema. A blog post might have Article schema and FAQ schema.
